The Wounded Warrior Project, according to the organization’s website,  was the initiative of several veterans and their friends, who, touched by stories of  the first wounded service members to come home from Iraq and Afghanistan, wanted to do something to help.

About the Wounded Warrior Project

From its early days providing comfort items to wounded service members at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, the organization’s efforts now provides support through its programs to tens of thousands of the wounded, their families and their caregivers. WWP supports warriors through 19 engaging programs which are offered free of charge and are designed to nurture minds and encourage economic empowerment.  These programs also serve to provide families and caregivers with the education, comfort, and care needed to support their injured warrior throughout the process of recovery.
