HH6 Camo Chix is more than a brand – it’s a lifestyle.

After getting our start as a resource for new military spouses and parents of newly-minted service members in Spring of 2014, we are proud to relaunch – with a new, finely tuned focus, in Spring of 2020!

But what’s with the name, you may ask?

‘HH6’ is the unofficial term for the military spouse, or ‘Household Commander,’ who has the service member’s ‘6’ (military speak for having one’s back.)

Founded by a military spouse of 25 years, HH6 Camo Chix embodies the strength, courage, sacrifice, and love of the family behind every service member – they are the spouses, children and parents who “have their 6” through all that military life brings.

The story behind the logo

The inspiration for our red-shoe logo came to HH6 Camo Chix ™ founder, Ann Medlin,  while she was recovering from an injury that left her working her way from wheelchair to walker and then a cane, all while single-parenting during a deployment.

“I love designing,” Ann explains, “and sometimes, to help me work through the pain of physical therapy, I would daydream about the cute shoes I’d wear again one day, and suddenly I knew exactly what the perfect pair of shoes would look like.”

“The color red,” Ann says of the rhinestone-heeled stiletto,  “is for the special love a woman holds in her heart for a husband or child serving in the military.” “A hint of camo,” she adds, “represents the strength and courage each woman will find from within, and  through networking and fellowship with other military wives and mothers.”

Ann Medlin is a seasoned military wife who has made it her mission to share what she knows and to offer her support to other military families, especially those new to military life.  She knows only too well what it is like to move every couple of years, make new friends, help the kids adjust to a new school and community, and reinvent herself professionally.

When she married her soldier, Ann traded in a life surrounded by her big, loving, chaotic family and life-long friends for the nomadic life of a military family. Since leaving her small hometown in the foothills of North Carolina, Ann has moved 12 times cross-country and overseas and survived 43 months of single parenting while her husband was deployed. Along with her family and childhood friends, Ann holds near and dear to her heart a number of special relationships — military sisters and civilian friends she met over the years.

Ann has learned to redefine herself professionally with each PCS move, leveraging not just her academic background —  liberal arts, education and early childhood development — but drawing from her passion for sports and her many years of volunteer experience.

Ann grew up helping in her mother’s restaurant and catering business, and later, while working in positions ranging from Logistics Coordinator for Samaritans Purse World Medical Missions to In-Home Preschool Pilot Program Facilitator,  Ann came to the realization that service to others was her calling in life. She determined to find a way to answer that call in some capacity wherever they lived,  whether it meant dedicating her talents to a worthy cause, teaching or coaching, or cooking up delicious food for a homesick soldier or a family new to post.

Through the years, Ann says, she has learned that  she can handle anything with God’s help and the support of her family and friends — including some very special fellow military wives who showed her the ropes and were there for her and family when they needed it most. Embracing that spirit, Ann has made it her mission to share what she knows and to offer her support to other military families.

One way to help, she decided, is to share her platform, HH6 Camo Chix, with fellow military spouses as well as the mothers of active-duty service members who are interested in writing / blogging about their experiences.

In addition to helping lift new and emerging voices with calls-for-articles, HH6 Camo Chix is recruiting established military-family and veteran-services contributors to write regular columns, so stay tuned for more as we ramp up to re-launch the HH6 Camo Chix online magazine in just a few weeks!
