HH6 Camo Chix Craft and DIY Contributor Krista Del Toro shares her tips and ideas for a DIY “Frozen” – themed children’s party.
I have done two “Frozen” parties for both of my daughters. The first party was in April 2014 after the movie had come out. At this point the movie was still new and you could not find many decorations or it was all out of stock. A nightmare yes. When doing a party start at least one month before the party is scheduled. This gives you enough time to make everything for your party.
I like to start with the invitations. I do my own handmade invitations. You can Google “Frozen” to get some ideas; this gets my creative juices going. The first party there was not many ideas, it can help to watch the movie to get ideas. My daughter said she wanted ice in the invitation. One night as I was falling asleep, you know the half asleep stage this is when I do my best creating; the design of the invitations was born. Now of course as life goes, I could not find all the things I wanted for the first invitation because it was April and all the winter things where not in the stores or online. So you make due with what you have and can find and then you use A LOT of glitter. Remember glitter is your best friend.
I found an awesome background from the movie online and printed it off on my computer. I then hand painted the swirls in purple to stand out. I glued the picture and the info to white paper and ripped the boarder around the pictures to make it look like ice. I then used a mixer of glitter and glue and painted the edges of the ripped paper. My daughter was so excited that it looked like ice, just like she wanted. I then glued everything to the painted back ground. Always add your personal touch like the swirls to your invitations it makes them more unique. Now that was done it is time for the envelope. This part is fun and you can do it in so many different ways. I found some light blue glitter paper at a Hawaiian craft store and it was not over priced, score!
I do not have one of those awesome craft machines that cut things out for you, so I make a lot of my own patterns for what I want. Just because you can’t find what you want in stores or online doesn’t mean give up on your vision, just make your own patterns. I have found the white big roll paper to work well.
For the envelope I wanted curved fronts, so I traced the invitation length on the white roll paper and then used a cup from my kitchen at the end to make the curve. Fold it in half and then cut to make a mirror image on the other side. Now you have your pattern. I traced the pattern on the back of the glitter paper and cut them out.
Now for the finishing touch. I used a hole punched and made holes all along the curved edge so I could weave the ribbon in. I found some ribbon that looked like ice and weaved it through the holes starting at the base of the curve and weaving to the middle. Tie the ribbon and you are done.

I can’t help myself I am a little over the top so I hot glued snowflakes to the envelope and the inside of the invitation. My daughter loved them and so did everyone that received one. It may be a little time consuming but it is so worth it in the end.
Now little sister has to have a frozen party also. Her party was in December and a lot more Frozen party supplies and ideas where available. I wanted to do her invitations different then big sisters and I was able to add the things I wanted to little sisters that where not available for the first one.
I did an Internet search and found a lot of good resources and great websites that offer free print offs. That is where I found my backgrounds and the foundation of the invitation. Now I am a little crazy and it was a little plain for me so I had to add my touch. Instead of just printing the party info on the designated space to the right I found the snowflake background and put the party info on it. I then glued it to white paper and ripped it like the first one. My daughter wanted it to look like snow so I did not add glitter.
I then decided to use my sewing machine to sew the info to the invitation. It still looked a little plain to me so I sewed along all the edges of the pictures. I also added the swirls because that is my thing. I had some rhinestones left over from Halloween so I added those just to give it a little sparkle.
For the envelope my daughter picked out the paper that was on sale online. I like to let my girls have a say in their invitations but I give them two or three choices that I can live with other wise they pick something that dose not go with the theme of the invitation and you have to tell them no, then they feel let down so I cut all that out by giving them choices, everyone wins.
I liked how the sewing looked so I used it on the envelope. I measured the invitation and added some length to cover the top. I just folded the edges over made them even and then sewed them, that easy. No cutting curves (BIG smile). I found the plastic snowflake 30 for $1, SWEET. To finish it I punched two holes, put the ribbon threw, then the snowflake and tied the bow. Of course hot glue little snowflakes and rhinestones and you are done. Everyone loved these and wanted me to make them for their parties. I made these invitations for less money then what people where charging for flat computer graphic print off invitations.
I had so much fun making these invitations and loved seeing the joy in my daughters’ faces as they handed them out to their friends!
