It’s normal for college students to reach out to parents for advice when problems or emergencies arise, and for our college-age sons and daughters serving our country in the military, it’s no different.
There are many resources available to service members and their families, and HH6 Camo Chix wants to connect military parents, especially those who serve as the immediate family support system to our younger, unmarried service members, with information about some of these resources.
Our Military Parent Resource Guide will address common concerns expressed by military parents, such as:
- Supporting a son or daughter who is facing surgery with no family or friends nearby
- Advising a son or daughter who finds himself/herself unexpectedly stuck at the airport without plans for food and lodging
- Helping a son or daughter deal with not being able to come home for a holiday
- Encouraging a son or daughter who is homesick or unhappy
To ensure that we provide the most thorough and up-to-date information, HH6 Camo Chix will consult with experts in the field from the appropriate branches of service. To do so, we need input from military parents, so we teamed up with the leadership of Military Mama Network (MMN), a non-profit group dedicated to supporting our military with cards, letters and packages filled with love, and providing a network of support for fellow parents.
Military Mama Network is sharing this post with the organization’s membership base of almost 4,000 military parents from their Facebook Group, FB Page, and Website. These parents, along with other parents of US military service members, regardless of participation with MMN or HH6 Camo Chix, are invited to help us with the project by commenting to this post with an indication of one or two of the biggest concerns/problems/questions they have encountered in helping their sons and daughters deal with issues that have come up while serving.
We will gather input through the month of January, compile a list of questions for our subject matter experts, and then publish the completed guide on this website in an easy to navigate drop-down menu. This resource will also be available in a downloadable (and printable), free PDF format.
