The Snowball Express – Highland Capital $1,000,000 Challenge was launched as a result of an 8-year-old boy’s desire to pay it forward” and a $20 gesture could very well turn into $2,000,000!

When 8-year-old Myles Eckert of Toledo, Ohio, discovered $20 in the parking lot of a Cracker Barrel, his first thought was to buy a video game, but when he saw a soldier who reminded him of his father, Army Sgt. Andy Eckert, who died in Iraq when Myles was just five weeks old, Miles decided instead to pay it forward.

Myles wrote a quick note and gave it to the soldier along with the $20 bill. The soldier, Lt. Col. Frank Dailey of the Ohio Air National Guard, was stunned by both the action and words of the young boy, who, in his letter posted on the Snowball Express website writes,

“Dear Soldier,
My dad was a soldier. He’s in heaven now. I found this $20 in the parking lot when we got here. We like to pay it forward in my family. It’s your lucky day! Thank you for your service.

Myles Eckert…a Gold Star kid”

Lt. Col. Dailey in turn decided to pay it forward too, and spread the word about what Myles had done. The story went viral and the response was overwhelming. Myles’ family, members of the Snowball Express, knew right away what they wanted to do with all the support that was pouring in, and partnered with a local company, Highland Capital, who found out about Myles’ wish to pay it forward and jumped right in to establish a challenge:
