Me sweat? …No Way!
Nine years ago, that was my attitude towards working out. We were stationed in Hawaii at the time, and while I practically lived in my bathing suit, I had never completed a fitness program. Oh sure, I dabbled in exercise routines here and there, but I had no focus.
What changed my outlook on fitness was having children, or to be more precise, the desire to have them. My husband and I were experiencing fertility issues, so I decided to take matters in my own hands – stack the deck in our favor, if you will – by getting fit and healthy. Then, once our daughter was born, my new goal was to reclaim my old body!
With a deployed husband and new baby, I needed something to keep me busy, get me out of the house, and to help me expand my small circle of friends – military life can be lonely, even in paradise. I was determined to find a fitness program that met all these needs; preferably one that included my child so that I wouldn’t need childcare while I worked out. And thankfully, I found Stroller Strides.
My first class was tough! We had to run a timed mile. I did it – walking, not running. It took me nearly 30 minutes, but I DID it. The instructor and the other moms in class were so positive and supportive; they wanted me to succeed as much as I did! Suddenly, I LOVED getting sweaty!
Stroller Strides is a great program that incorporates kids into the activity of working out while fostering fellowship among the participants. And, it changes lives. Well, mine anyway. Until Stroller Strides, I had never run. My husband was shocked, to say the least, when I asked him for a jogging stroller, asking me, “Are you REALLY going to use it?”
Let’s just say that the BOB (my trusty jogging stroller) has completed countless workouts and over 50 miles of races, while I – who used to avoid sweating, much less muddy obstacle courses – am the proud finisher of two Warrior Dashes!
Now that I know the secret to a successful fitness program – doing something FUN and working out with positive people who share your fitness goals — I want to help others. I’m a Beachbody Fitness Coach, and through Beachbody was recently certified to teach PiYo, a terrific group fitness class. I’m on track to becoming an ACE certified group fitness instructor, and one day I plan to have my own Stroller Strides franchise.
I’m a fitness fan-for- life, and very excited about sharing my passion with others.
Please, don’t get me wrong. There are days when I just want to stay in bed and snuggle my babies. But then I look at them and realize that they are my “why.” I want to be an example to my four year old daughter that it is about being healthy, NOT skinny. I want to inspire my kids to be healthy and fit, and to push themselves to do things they didn’t think they could do.
