“A persons a person, no matter how small.”

Dr. Seuss fans come in all sizes and ages. As an early childhood professional I always looked forward to his birthday and Read Across America Week. Story time was always best when I could wear my tall, red & while-striped hat and get lost with the kids in one of the good doctor’s classics.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, Nothing is going to get better, its not”

It wasn’t just the catchy rhymes or captivating pictures, it was what he had to say. Dr. Seuss  made reading fun while tackling tough topics like prejudice, ecology, compassion, the importance of having an open mind, and the value of fun. He broke his lessons down into easy-to-read (and impossible to forget) prose.

I was feeling a little nostalgic about not getting to celebrating Dr. Seuss’s birthday. My son is well beyond those years, and I no longer work on a daily basis with little ones. But then it occurred to me…I can still celebrate. So, in honor of Dr. Suess’ birthday, I wrote a little something about being a military spouse, and I did it Dr. Seuss-style:
